Thanks for these tips. I have recently started thinking about seo for my own site. I also started reading 'Inbound Marketing' which covered some of the stuff you talked about.

I hadn't thought of the Flickr page. I'm planning to do a photoshoot later in the month and was just going to put the pics on facbook (as well as my own site), but I'll be putting them on Flickr too now.

You are correct. Matt cutts came out and said it a few weeks ago. It’s too bad because just recently Digg started putting rel=”nofollow” tags on all their links because so much linkspam was getting sent in to them.

Something is going to change in the next few years because lots of people are paying for links now too and it seems as though that’s the only way to get links anymore.

I’m sure in another 6 months or a year it’ll be time for an update to this.

Much of your advice is excellent, but the suggestion that the use of nofollow gives extra link power to your followed pages is no longer accurate. It certainly was a popular technique when your post was written. I don’t mean to cast any aspersion.

It’s called PageRank Sculpting, as I am sure *you* know but many of your readers won’t. Google realized webmasters were using this technique and took steps to remove the advantage. See:
